Are you a big bagel chip fan? I certainly am. I’ve been enjoying versions of these since childhood, and like my seed crackers, they’re perfect for a charcuterie board with dips and spreads.

Since we moved, I’ve been cooking at home a lot more—mainly because the kitchen opens onto the living room, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out while I’m cooking. With more time in the kitchen, I’ve settled on a few easy homemade snacks that have quickly become favorites. The easiest and one of the most satisfying is this three-ingredient bagel chip recipe: a childhood treat that’s ready in minutes and perfect for snacking or serving with spreads.
If you want to make your own, keep reading for the simple steps.
These are honestly my favorite bagel chips. When I was a kid, my parents often bought garlic bagel chips from the store, and I loved them. These homemade ones taste even better and are much more economical.
To put the cost in perspective: six fresh bakery bagels (not frozen) cost around $6–8 at my grocery store. I usually have the other ingredients on hand, so I can make two to three batches for under $10 total—far cheaper than store-bought and far more delicious.
Ingredients for Easy Bagel Chips (about 4 servings)
- 3 medium to large bagels (my favorite mix: 2 everything, 1 plain)
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Bagel Chips Recipe
1. Preheat the oven to 250°F (about 120°C).
2. Slice whole bagels into even rounds. Mine were about 1/4 inch thick; you can slice thinner if you prefer, but try to keep the pieces uniform so they bake evenly. Place the slices in a large bowl.
3. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil and garlic powder, stirring until blended. Pour the oil mixture over the bagel slices and toss with your hands to coat each piece evenly.
4. Arrange the coated slices in a single layer on a baking sheet or tray. Spread them out as much as possible to allow air circulation and even crisping.
5. Bake for 50 minutes, rotating the baking sheet every 15 minutes to ensure even baking and consistent crispness. Once golden and crisp, remove from the oven and let cool—chips will firm up further as they cool.

Variations and tips:
- Seasoning ideas: Everything bagel seasoning, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili flakes, za’atar, or a sprinkle of Parmesan for a savory twist.
- Oil alternatives: Use melted butter for a richer flavor or a neutral vegetable oil if preferred.
- Slicing tip: Very thin slices crisp faster; thicker slices take longer but give a chewier chip. Keep thickness consistent for best results.
- Storage: Store completely cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If they soften, re-crisp in a low oven for a few minutes.
