Quick Getaway to New Mexico and White Sands National Park

White Sands, New Mexico

Last weekend we drove from El Paso, Texas to Alamogordo, New Mexico, and then on to White Sands National Monument to celebrate Ash and Jared’s wedding. It was a very short trip, so we didn’t have time for extensive exploration, but I still managed to capture a good number of photos.

By the way, this was our official February outing for the 12 Trips in 12 Months project. Have you ever visited New Mexico?

I had hoped that Jeff and I could stay longer to visit Santa Fe or Albuquerque after the wedding festivities, but we didn’t want to leave Luna and Franz for too long. We’re also trying to conserve Jeff’s days off from work while keeping up with all these trips, so we returned early with plans to go back later this year.

When we return, I definitely want to spend more time at White Sands. The landscape felt otherworldly—Ash even compared it to being on the moon. For miles around, it’s endless white sand in the middle of nowhere, and it made a stunning backdrop for their wedding. Whenever they share the full wedding photos on Sugar & Cloth, you’ll definitely want to see them.

Aside from White Sands, we didn’t explore much else on this trip, so I don’t have a full travel guide to offer. Still, I took a bunch of photos—many on my phone—and I’m sharing some favorites here.
