Get Real Tuesday: Behind-the-Scenes Exclusive Peek

Behind the Scenes // Photobombing Cat

Tuesdays are my day to be honest about what life looks like behind the scenes, so here’s a candid update on how glamorous — or not — things really are around here. In short: not glamorous. At all.

There’s no shortage of colorful ice cream sandwiches, but there’s also the occasional tumbleweed of cat fur that drifts into dessert because I haven’t swept in over a week.

Below are a few photos that show a more authentic side of things — the real-life messes, fixes, and funny moments that don’t make the curated feed.

Like the time Franz decided to photobomb a DIY series I created for Handmade Charlotte (photos by Heidi Geldhauser). He’s adorable and cuddly, but he sheds relentlessly, which you’ll see evidence of further down in this post.

That unfinished little hole in the wall from my office makeover shoot? Yeah, I covered it by taping a piece of artwork over it. Problem solved. Don’t worry — I’ve since added a plastic protective plate over that spot so it’s safe now.

When you need the couch positioned to catch the best natural light but the wall behind it is in shadow, sometimes you fake it with a giant backdrop board. It’s a quick, practical fix that keeps photos looking bright and balanced. Extra points for the broom handles visible at the edge of a before photo — proof that I own a broom even if I don’t use it often.

And then there’s the fur tumbleweed situation. If you look closely in some shots you can spot clumps of fur gathering by the stairs. That’s life here: three animals roaming the halls and stairways, leaving little reminders of their presence everywhere. Also, yes, those stroopwafel ice cream sandwiches are real and very good.
