Linear Nail Art: DIY Guide for Chic Striping Designs

Linear Nail Art DIY in 15 Minutes

We’ve been trying out a few more DIY nail designs and this linear look may be my favorite so far — and it’s really quick and easy. A true bonus for anyone who wants a polished manicure without spending hours at the salon.

Recreate this linear nail art in about 15 minutes using any color combination you like. It works well in every palette we’ve tested, from soft pastels to bold, contrasting shades.

Materials:

  • Clear base coat
  • Nail polish in your chosen base color
  • Water-based paint pen in a contrasting color

Instructions:

Start by applying a clear base coat to protect your nails and help the polish adhere. Paint each nail with your selected base color and allow it to dry completely. Use a water-based paint pen in a contrasting shade to draw linear patterns on each nail — thin parallel lines, diagonal stripes, or small intersecting lines all work well. For variety, switch up one nail with a more carefree zigzag or scribble pattern to add visual interest. When the designs are fully dry, finish with a clear top coat to seal and protect the look.
