6 Weekend DIY Projects You Can Finish in a Day

This weekend Jeff and I are exploring London and doing a lot of shopping. So far the weather has been pleasantly dry, and I haven’t needed an umbrella—surprising after our last visit, when it rained almost the entire time. When I do need one, I love a bold, patterned umbrella.

Do you have plans for the weekend? If you’re looking for something creative to do, I’ve rounded up six fun DIY projects you can try when you have some free time. Each is simple enough for a weekend afternoon and makes a lovely handmade gift or home accent. Read on for the list of projects and the original creators to credit for the ideas.

1. DIY earrings from The Lovely Drawer — small, stylish earrings you can make at home to match any outfit.
2. DIY wood sofa from The Merrythought — a bold woodworking project that yields a custom, modern sofa frame.
3. How to embroider any design on clothing by hand — a step-by-step guide for personalizing garments with embroidery.
4. DIY wrap bead choker from Delia Creates — a simple jewelry piece that’s quick to wrap and customize.
5. DIY abstract print umbrella by Sugar and Cloth — paint your own umbrella with an abstract print for rainy-day flair.
6. DIY gold-dipped marble ring cones from The Wholesome Handbook — an easy, elegant way to display rings using a marbled base and metallic accents.

Each of these projects offers a creative way to spend a few hours, whether you want a wearable accessory, a décor piece, or a practical handmade item. If you’re into jewelry, the earrings, wrap-bead choker, and ring cones are quick wins that let you experiment with color and texture. For home projects, the wood sofa and ring cones can be great statements, while the hand-embroidered clothing and painted umbrella add personal, visible touches to everyday items.

If you try any of these, consider mixing techniques: use embroidered patches on a plain canvas umbrella, or pair gold-dipped details with painted accents for a coordinated look. These projects also make thoughtful gifts—homemade jewelry, a painted umbrella, or a small display piece like ring cones shows real care and creativity.

P.S. If you want to follow along with our trip, I’m sharing photos and stories on Instagram while we’re away.

Hope you have a happy weekend.
