I had a bunch of leftover blooms this weekend after finishing a project and didn’t want them to go to waste. So I quickly assembled several mini bouquets and a few wedding boutonnieres.
Seeing them grouped together made me think of my own wedding. I made all the wedding flowers myself and we used a lot of yellow accents. That memory got me thinking about the charm—and the mild chaos—of DIY weddings.

For boutonnieres you really only need three elements: one greenery/filler (like acacia), one structural filler (like a billy ball), and one small focal bloom (like a ranunculus). Wrap floral wire around the stems to secure them, then cover the base with velvet ribbon or washi tape to hide the wire and finish the look.
When my husband and I married, we used an even simpler approach—just one or two billy balls with a tiny sprig of greenery, stems wrapped in washi tape. Beautiful arrangements don’t have to be elaborate; sometimes simplicity is the most striking choice.
