eco friendly products in cute and colorful designs

If you follow my Instagram stories, you might know I’ve made several changes over the past few years to live more sustainably. I began with a small experiment: tucking away the paper towels I already owned to see if I could do without them. That simple change stuck — I haven’t missed them, and my grocery bill is a little lower too.

After switching to reusable “unpaper” towels, I started looking for other single-use items I could replace with reusable, eco-friendly alternatives. I found so many great options — from water bottles and reusable straws to silicone ear swabs — and compiled my favorite functional and well-designed picks. The list focuses on items that are both useful and stylish, because let’s be honest: if something looks good, you’re more likely to use it.

Here are 24 cute, reusable, and eco-friendly items that can replace single-use products for good. If you’re a crafter, check out my other roundup of easy sustainable DIYs: 14 crafts using recycled materials.

P.S. The images aren’t numbered, but I went through the list left to right, top to bottom.

More Thoughts on Replacing Single-Use Items

Every small change adds up. You don’t have to buy everything new — many reusable items can be found secondhand through neighborhood Buy Nothing groups, Facebook Marketplace, thrift stores, or yard sales. Reusing and repurposing existing items is often the most eco-friendly choice.

Reusable Food Storage Options

Swap disposable sandwich bags for cloth or silicone baggies that wash easily. Cloth bags work well for dry snacks like nuts and trail mix; silicone bags are best for fruits, wet foods, and anything that could leak or be squashed. Replace plastic wrap with wax food wraps or silicone huggers for cut vegetables and fruit — they cling to keep produce fresh and cut down on plastic waste.

Replacing Single-Use Straws with Reusables

The main reusable straw materials are stainless steel, glass, and silicone. Stainless steel straws are inexpensive and durable but not ideal for very thick drinks and require careful cleaning. Glass straws are attractive and often dishwasher-safe, though they’re fragile and better suited to at-home use. Silicone straws are my favorite: flexible, travel-friendly, available in multiple sizes (great for everything from coffee to smoothies), and typically dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

Using Reusable Grooming Items

Bathrooms generate a lot of single-use waste. Silicone swabs are a reusable alternative to cotton swabs for makeup and cleaning, and reusable cotton rounds replace disposable makeup pads. Swap plastic loofahs for natural sponges or loofahs that can be composted. Small changes in your grooming routine reduce waste and often save money over time.

Using Reusable Shopping Bags

Bring a compact, attractive reusable bag to the store to avoid single-use plastic bags. Keep a lightweight bag in your purse or car so you always have one available. For produce, use washable linen or cotton produce bags and simply remove produce at home and toss the bags in the wash as needed.

Trying a Compost Bin

Composting can feel intimidating, but starting with a small, attractive countertop bin makes it easy to collect kitchen scraps. If you have outdoor space, a compost tumbler or pile speeds decomposition. Even a small daily habit of saving food scraps reduces landfill waste and creates nutrient-rich compost for plants.

Using Reusable Bottles and Cups for On-the-Go

Carrying a reusable water bottle or travel mug saves money, reduces single-use plastic consumption, and often encourages you to drink more water. A favorite attractive bottle or cup is easier to keep with you, so you’re less likely to buy disposable drinks.
