It’s already Christmas week, and although I’m nearly finished wrapping the family’s presents, I still have a couple of fun finishing touches planned. I’ll admit I’m more obsessed with the wrapping and presentation than I probably should be.
Below are four creative, easy DIY gift topper ideas to elevate your holiday packages this year.

1. Holographic Garland Topper: I repurposed leftover garlands from a New Year’s Eve project and wrapped sections around a few boxes. The holographic star garland is my favorite — it adds instant sparkle and motion. Use different lengths and layers for a luxe, textured look.

2. Giant Fabric Bow Topper: Cut several large squares of fabric (about 16 inches each). Stack the squares, pinch them in the center to form a bow shape, and wrap a thinner strip of fabric around the middle to secure it. Attach the finished bow to a gift for a bold, soft statement—perfect for oversized presents or to add a cozy, handmade touch.
3. Disco Garland Topper: I bought a sparkly disco-style garland and cut it into smaller sections to wrap around packages. Short pieces give a fun, modern twist; longer loops work well layered across the top of a wrapped gift. The reflective pieces catch light and make even simple wrapping look festive.

4. Spray-Painted Tree Trimmings Topper: I collected free tree trimmings from a store that trims Christmas trees and offers the clippings in bins. After trimming, spray-paint the greenery in metallic or bold colors, then tie or glue sprigs to your packages like you would ribbon. You can also craft small bows from the painted branches and finish them with a wooden bead for a natural, rustic knot.
