6 Weekend DIY Projects to Try This Weekend

Jeff and I are spending a long weekend in Richmond, VA — we arrived yesterday — so I probably won’t be tackling any DIYs while we’re here. If you have some free time, though, I’ve gathered six fun projects you can try at home. Each one is easy to follow and perfect for a weekend craft session.

Also, if you have recommendations for must-visit spots in RVA, please share them. So far our list includes Need Supply and the Quirk hotel/gallery, but we’d love more suggestions for food, shops, galleries, or parks.

1. A colorful DIY rainbow tote from The House That Lars Built — a woven, vibrant tote that’s great for errands or the beach.
2. A refreshing blood orange and grapefruit mimosa recipe — a bright, citrus twist on a brunch favorite.
3. How to turn old jeans into a denim clutch in about an hour — a quick upcycle that gives worn denim new life.
4. A floating flower DIY for summer pool parties — a simple decorative idea that adds a festive touch to gatherings.
5. A guide on how to dye synthetic materials, including tips for dyeing faux fur Ikea rugs — learn the best techniques and products for non-natural fibers.
6. A DIY beaded hanging planter from Almost Makes Perfect — a stylish, handmade plant hanger that adds texture and personality to your home.

These projects cover a range of skills and styles, from fashion upcycles to home decor and party-ready touches. If you want step-by-step instructions or a list of supplies for any of them, let me know which project you’d like to try first and I’ll provide more details.

Wishing you a creative and relaxing weekend.
