Materials
- Cardboard (from a box or recycled packaging)
- Clear packing tape
- Crayons, colored pencils, markers, or paint
- Googly eyes or other small decorations (optional)
- Dry erase marker and a soft cloth for wiping
- Scissors
How to Make a Halloween Dry Erase Board
1. Paint or color the cardboard
Start with a flat piece of cardboard and cover one side with a solid color using paint, crayons, or colored pencils. A single, bold color makes the finished board easy to write on and creates a clean background for drawings.
2. Cut out the shape
Cut the cardboard into the shape you want: a circle works well for a pumpkin, a rectangle for a Frankenstein face, or any silhouette that fits your theme. Take care with scissors and have an adult assist younger kids.

3. Cover with clear packing tape
Cover the entire painted surface with strips of clear packing tape, overlapping slightly so the surface becomes glossy and smooth. Trim any excess tape that hangs over the edges so the tape lays flat and neat.
4. Add details
Glue on googly eyes or other small decorations if you like. The taped surface becomes dry-erase-friendly, so use a dry erase marker to write notes, draw jack-o’-lantern faces, or sketch silly monsters. Wipe clean with a soft cloth and reuse.

Ideas for Bigger Versions
This concept scales easily. For a classroom activity, cover a large sheet of cardboard or poster board with tape so students and teachers can write seasonal messages and drawings. It’s a fun, reusable display for bulletin boards or hallway decorations.
At home, a large dry erase cardboard piece can become a focal point for party notes, trick-or-treat reminders, or family messages during October.
