The past two weeks have been the busiest I can remember. I’m not complaining—just explaining why I’m so excited for the weekend. It’s only eight hours away, and I can’t wait.
Tomorrow, Jeff and I plan to see a movie after a session with a personal trainer. We finally booked a beach trip that’s only a month away, so I need to stop indulging in treats like animal cracker fudge and start getting serious about cardio. Sunday will likely be a slow, relaxed day spent at home with Luna and Franz—my favorite kind of day.
What are your plans this weekend? If you’re looking for a few creative projects to try, here are six easy DIY ideas to inspire you:
- Palm leaf table runner idea from Martha Stewart
- Woven basket planter—simple and stylish (Fall for DIY)
- Tinted plaster mini planters—how to color plaster and make small planters
- DIY weaving projects that add texture using roving knots (A Beautiful Mess)
- Confetti-pattern placemats for a playful table setting (Sugar & Cloth)
- Birthday cake ice cream recipe for a delicious homemade treat
Each of these projects is approachable and can be completed in a weekend. The palm leaf runner brings a fresh, tropical vibe to your table; the woven basket planter is great for displaying potted plants or succulents; tinted plaster mini planters are perfect for a minimalist, modern look; DIY weaving adds tactile interest to walls or textile pieces; confetti placemats brighten mealtime with a pop of color; and the birthday cake ice cream is a fun, celebratory dessert to enjoy with friends or family.
If you’re short on time, pick one small project—like a mini planter or a set of placemats—and focus on finishing it. These crafts are forgiving and easy to personalize: change colors, materials, or scale to suit your space and taste. Gather basic supplies such as plaster mix, roving or yarn, fabric or vinyl for placemats, and some simple tools like scissors, glue, and a small paintbrush. Most projects can be completed with items you already have or can find at a local craft store.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure to leave room for relaxation. A productive weekend can still include downtime—curl up with a movie after your DIY session, or enjoy a scoop of homemade ice cream while you admire your handiwork.
Have a wonderful weekend.
