Grenada Travel Guide: Top Places to Visit and Things to Do

Finally sharing our Grenada trip and a complete travel guide to help you plan your visit.

St. George's, Grenada (a travel guide)

Last month Jeff and I traveled to Grenada with our friends Ashley and Jared from Sugar & Cloth to celebrate Jared’s birthday and their engagement. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken — beautiful weather, amazing food, friendly people, and staying in an incredibly luxurious suite with its own private pool and jacuzzi.

Leaving felt a little heartbreaking, but we returned home with wonderful memories and a place I won’t soon forget.

The getaway was in partnership with Sandals Resorts. Full disclosure: I’d never stayed at a Sandals resort before this trip, and I’ll definitely go back.

We stayed at Sandals LaSource, an all-inclusive resort in St. George’s, Grenada. The property sits right on the water with a long, walkable beach, several pools, tennis courts, and excellent restaurants and cocktails. Below are photos and highlights from our stay.

Of course we did a few classic travel-photo stops, like visiting Fort George for the view. Ashley packed balloons for photo ops — she’s a pro at creating a quick balloon garland. Most of our time, though, was spent enjoying the resort: spa treatments, lounging by the pool, and sampling food and drinks. Before diving into those details, here are the essentials.

Where is Grenada exactly?

Grenada is an island nation in the southeastern Caribbean, located north of Venezuela and close to the northern coast of South America. The island’s location gives it relatively low hurricane frequency compared with some other Caribbean destinations, so it can be a good option year-round. We visited during hurricane season and enjoyed perfect weather the entire time.

Where to stay in Grenada

I recommend Sandals LaSource for its convenience — it’s only minutes from the airport and centrally placed for exploring other parts of the island. We stayed in a one-bedroom butler suite with a private pool. The suite was spacious, with a luxurious bathroom and comfortable living space, and the butler service made the stay feel effortless. Having someone to handle arrangements and requests took relaxation to another level once we adjusted to it.

What to do in Grenada

There’s plenty to enjoy right on the resort, so we only left the property for a full-day tour around St. George’s. We booked a guided day trip through a local tour operator and visited Fort Frederick, a rum distillery, the Grand Anse vendors market, and Fort George, which offers outstanding panoramic views. The drive included many scenic stops perfect for photos and short walks.

Beyond city tours, Grenada offers hiking to waterfalls, sailing, and excellent scuba diving. The island is also home to an underwater sculpture park — a unique dive destination that’s worth exploring if you have the time and diving experience.

Below are additional photos from the trip to give a feel for the island and the resort experience.

  • I’ve taken trips to Turks and Caicos — both Providenciales and Grand Turk are distinct and worth visiting for different experiences.
  • Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic and Harbour Island in the Bahamas (North Eleuthera) are charming beach destinations to consider.
