Before heading out for the weekend, I wanted to share a small balcony makeover I just finished. Perfect timing for a few Cinco de Mayo cocktails and plenty of sunshine.
I partnered with Annie Selke to showcase their new Palm Springs Collection, which gave me the push I needed to finally turn our neglected outdoor spot into something livable.
Our balcony used to be boring and unused — we hardly went out there because there wasn’t a place to sit. Now it’s a functional little space where we can soak up afternoon sun and relax. Click through for the full before and after photos.

That “before” photo really shows how empty and uninviting the balcony felt — a tool box and nothing else. Not at all what I pictured after moving in. So I gathered outdoor textiles, seating, and lots of plants to give this basic apartment balcony some personality. It’s still a work in progress: I need a storage solution and a few finishing touches, but it’s a solid start. Here are the pieces I used.

The final look includes many pieces from Annie Selke’s Palm Springs collection — most of the pillows and the rug options are from that line. I love swapping textiles with the seasons, so having several pillows and a couple of rugs to mix and match is ideal. The quality is excellent, which makes a difference for outdoor use.
The outdoor pillows are thick and durable, as is the Catamaran Indoor/Outdoor rug. Some favorites, like the Frida rug with colorful squares and a few linen pillows, aren’t strictly outdoor items, but because our balcony is covered and we’ll use them in dry, sunny weather, they work well during the warmer months.
To complete the space, I added a few items I already owned: my Acapulco chair that used to be in the bedroom, a locally bought plant stand, and a whole lot of plants. An outdoor spot just isn’t the same without greenery.

All Annie Selke items featured here are available in their digital catalog. The Palm Springs house used as the catalog backdrop is beautiful — I found myself flipping through those pages repeatedly.

What do you think of this before and after? Do you have a small outdoor space that could use a refresh?
