Growing up, opening the little gifts tucked into our stockings in front of the fireplace was my favorite part of Christmas. My mom wrapped every single item so we’d have more to open, and my brother and I took turns unwrapping. Stocking surprises ranged from classic treats like candy and lip gloss to slightly larger, more personal items. Those childhood Christmas memories still make me smile.
This year I wanted to keep that magic alive, so I put together a set of colorful stocking stuffer ideas and created a DIY stocking tutorial — those furry pop-art stockings you’ll see are handmade. I also themed both the stockings and the contents around pop art in the style of Andy Warhol, which inspired the furry flower pattern based on Warhol’s flower series. Read on for the full breakdown and a quick, easy tutorial for making faux-fur pop-art stockings.

First — stocking stuffers. Everything I chose for these stockings came from CVS: bright, fun beauty products (I love the K-beauty masks with cheerful packaging), designer minis, and custom photo gifts from CVS Photo. I made a photo mug, two wooden photo ornaments, holiday cards, a small photo book, and even custom playing cards. All are excellent, easy stocking-stuffer options.
CVS is making it simple to fill stockings this season: they promote #StockingStufferWeek (December 17–24) and put a wide variety of gift options in one place so you can finish your shopping quickly and conveniently.
Here are a few of the items I tucked into my faux-fur stockings:
soft custom cover photo book // photo mug // maple round photo ornament // Essie nail polish // colorfully packaged K-beauty sheet masks // custom playing cards // Daisy by Marc Jacobs mini perfume // Beauty 360 bamboo brush set // Lindt caramel truffles
And yes — I already had the banana-print wrapping paper. It felt too perfect for an Andy Warhol–inspired stocking not to use.

Ready to make a stocking?
Quick note: this tutorial shows an unlined stocking made with fairly thick faux fur. The fabric’s finished backing looks neat enough to skip lining. If you prefer a lined version, use a lined-stocking tutorial instead.
Materials for an Unlined DIY Stocking
- Faux fur or another fabric of your choice
- Small velvet scrap for the hanging loop
- Tailor’s chalk or fabric marker
- Scissors
- Sewing machine (or hand-sewing supplies)
Instructions for an Unlined DIY Stocking
1. Press or steam your fabric to remove wrinkles. Place the fabric with the wrong side up and draw your stocking outline in chalk. You can trace an old stocking or draw a new shape. Cut out that piece, then use it as a template to cut a second piece for the back. Make sure the pieces are mirror images (wrong sides together when cutting) so the front and back will align.
2. Cut a rectangle of velvet about 5.5 x 2 inches for the hanging loop. Fold the rectangle lengthwise, stitch along the long edge, and turn it right side out to make a narrow loop.
3. Fold the loop in half and attach it to the back of one stocking piece about 1/2 inch below the top edge, with the raw ends aligned and the loop extending inward. Pin in place.
4. Place the two stocking pieces right sides together, then sew all the way around the stocking shape using a consistent seam allowance (I used 1/2 inch). Leave the top open.
5. Turn the stocking right side out. Finish the top edge by folding it under about 1/2 inch and stitching all the way around. You can sew this step by machine or by hand for a neat finish.

Once finished, hang the stocking and fill it with mini gifts. I can already picture these on a millennial-pink painted fireplace mantel.

P.S. To make shopping even easier, try the CVS Pharmacy mobile app. You can shop from your phone, place an order, and pick up via curbside with CVS Curbside Pickup — many photo gifts and holiday cards are available for same-day pickup.
What do you think? Have you ever created a fully themed stocking-stuffer set? And would you change your stockings every year, or keep the same ones year after year?
