How to Make a Cloth Envelope

1. Print the template so the marked width measures 11 cm. Cut out the template, pin it to the felt, and trim the felt to match the shape.
2. Stitch a light running stitch along the template’s marked “fold” lines. This temporary stitch will act as a guide for placing the lettering and will be removed later.

3. Add a small fabric “stamp” in the top-right corner of the envelope front and sew it in place. You can machine-sew this if you prefer, but hand-stitching works well too. For extra charm, add a little embroidered postmark nearby.

4. Embroider a name and address on the front. Make it personal—this is a love letter, after all. Once the embroidery is complete, remove the temporary running stitch guide.

5. Apply the bondaweb: place the envelope piece onto the adhesive side of the bondaweb, flip them so the paper backing faces up, and press with a steam iron to fuse. Trim the excess bondaweb and peel off the backing paper.
6. Turn the felt piece face down, place the printed fabric (right side up) on top, and press again to bond the layers. This creates a neat fabric lining for the envelope.

7. Trim any excess fabric from the edges, then fold the envelope along the template lines and press the folds to sharpen them. The lining should sit neatly inside the felt shape.

8. Assemble the envelope by stitching a running stitch around the edges, catching both layers where they overlap. As you sew, attach the button on the flap and add the snap fastener to secure the envelope closed.

9. Create the card to go inside. I tore the edge of my card for a rustic look and added a small fabric heart. Write your message and tuck the card into the envelope.

And that’s it—your reusable felt love letter is finished. After Valentine’s Day, fold it back up and keep it for next year; it’s simple to reuse and always a sweet keepsake.
