Using the same cork coasters featured in last week’s two-tier jewelry dish project, I made these $2 cupcake stands in just 60 seconds. They’re an ideal last-minute party DIY: quick, affordable, and customizable.
Following suggestions from the previous Ikea hack, I added a bright pop of color. I’m definitely feeling the color-block trend, and these simple stands are a great way to introduce bold hues to your dessert table. Below you’ll find the short tutorial and everything you need to recreate them.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a super inexpensive cupcake stand in under a minute:
Materials:
- Ikea cork coasters (a small set of two is typically around $1.49; larger sets are about $1.99)
- Wood napkin rings (a bag of five runs roughly $2.50, so each ring costs about $0.50)
- Optional: mini wood bowls for a slightly different look (about $1.50 each)
- Hot glue gun or a strong adhesive like E6000
- Acrylic paint and a paintbrush
Instructions:
1. Paint the wood napkin rings or mini bowls in your chosen colors and let them dry. If you prefer, you can paint the cork coasters too, but cork soaks up paint quickly and may need multiple coats or a primer for an even finish.
2. Once dry, attach the painted napkin ring or bowl to the underside of a cork coaster using hot glue or E6000. Press briefly to secure and allow the glue to set. That’s it—place your cupcake on top and you’re done.
3. For a taller stand, stack multiple napkin rings before gluing them to the coaster.
