After the success of the buñuelos stacks, I wanted to make more fried cinnamon‑sugar treats. Churros felt like the natural next choice—crispy, ridged, and dusted with cinnamon sugar. If you’re craving a sweet, satisfying snack, this easy homemade churros recipe delivers.

Ingredients
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 48 oz used in a large pot)
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup all‑purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- Large star piping tip (for example, Wilton #1M)
- Cinnamon sugar (see suggested ratio below)
Instructions
In a small bowl, sift together the baking soda and flour; set aside.
In a medium saucepan combine the water, butter, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then remove it from the heat.
Stir the flour mixture into the hot liquid until a cohesive dough forms—a smooth ball that pulls away from the sides of the pan. Allow the dough to cool briefly, then incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. The dough should remain thick and form back into a ball.
Heat the oil in a deep pot, skillet, or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). While the oil heats, fit a piping bag with the large star tip and fill it with the churro dough.
Pipe approximately 5‑inch lengths of dough directly into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until each churro is evenly golden brown—about 4–5 minutes per batch depending on thickness and oil temperature.
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the churros to paper towels to drain excess oil, then roll them in cinnamon sugar while still warm. A good starting blend is 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon mixed into 3/4 cup granulated sugar, but adjust to taste. Serve the churros warm for the best texture and flavor.
I love dipping sauces with churros; a homemade salted dulce de leche is an excellent pairing and complements the cinnamon sugar beautifully.

Are you a churros fan? I’m curious if National Churros Day exists—some sources list June 5th, others suggest dates in May, and some say it’s not an official observance. Regardless of the date, churros are worth celebrating anytime.
P.S. Today we’re heading to Europe! I’ll be sharing travel highlights and snapshots on Snapchat and Instagram if you want to follow along on the trip.
