DIY earrings are one of my favorite quick projects when I want something simple and fun. Today I’m sharing an easy project: cute DIY wooden face earrings that are fast, playful, and perfect for a quick craft session.

These little faces fall between bold statement pieces and everyday wear — versatile enough to dress up or tone down depending on your mood. Try making a pair and see how they fit your style.

Why I love small jewelry projects: they’re low-pressure and fun. You’re not building furniture or solving a big problem, just letting your creativity take a short break. These earrings are almost therapeutic — once finished, I found myself smiling whenever I looked at them. Hopefully this 15-minute DIY brightens your day too. Here’s how to make DIY face earrings in about 15 minutes.

Materials for DIY face earrings.

Materials for DIY Face Earrings

  • Acrylic paint in your chosen colors
  • Paint brushes — one very thin brush and one regular brush
  • Craft wood circles in two sizes (I used large and medium)
  • Drill with a 1/16” drill bit
  • Small jump rings
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Earring posts
  • Strong adhesive or super glue

How to Make DIY Face Earrings

Drill holes in the top of each wood round.

1. Drill the wooden discs. Begin by drilling a small hole near the edge of each wooden circle. Position the hole as close to the edge as possible so the earring hangs nicely. Be careful with your fingers while drilling.

Paint the background of each circle then fill in with face details.

2. Paint a base color. Paint the front, back, and sides of each circle with your chosen base color, or leave them natural if you prefer. Allow the paint to dry fully before adding details.

3. Paint the facial features. Using the thin brush, add the facial details. Start with the whites of the eyes, let them dry, then paint pupils, nose or eyebrow lines, and finally the lips. Work slowly with thin layers for cleaner lines.

Add jump rings to connect the smaller circle to the larger face circle.

4. Assemble the earrings. When all paint is completely dry, connect the smaller accent circle to the larger face circle using a small jump ring and jewelry pliers. Position the jump ring through the drilled hole so the circles hang straight.

Glue the earring post to the back of the top edge of each large circle using a strong adhesive. Press and hold for several seconds to ensure a secure bond. Let the glue cure fully according to the adhesive instructions before wearing.

Tips: use a very fine brush or a toothpick for tiny details, and seal finished earrings with a clear varnish if you want extra durability. Experiment with different color combinations and expressions to create a range of looks — from cheerful and whimsical to more refined and modern.

P.S. The backdrop in these photos is a framed piece of artwork I usually have hanging on my wall, which adds a personal touch to the project photos.
