New Year Green Smoothie Recipe for Energy and Detox

Easy green smoothie recipe

After all the holiday cookies, heavy meals, and winter hibernation, I’m ready to start the new year with something lighter and healthier. Sound familiar?

To help, I asked Kate Kordsmeier of Root + Revel — a talented food writer and recipe developer who I know personally — to share one of her favorite green smoothie recipes. Kate lives in the same building as my studio and is amazing at creating simple, delicious, wholesome food. This recipe is vegan and perfect for a fresh start.

Kate Kordsmeier has developed recipes for over 100 publications and founded Root + Revel, a food and wellness site that encourages natural living without sacrificing flavor. She recently released an eBook, Superfood Green Smoothies, and the smoothie below is included in it. The eBook features beautiful photography by Heidi Geldhauser and a collection of nourishing, tasty recipes.

Now, onto the recipe!

Clean green smoothie recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (add ¼ cup at a time if you need more liquid)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 2 dates, pitted

Recipe (makes 2 servings)

Place all ingredients into a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, pausing to scrape down the sides if needed. Taste and adjust the consistency by adding a bit more almond milk if desired. Divide between two glasses and serve immediately.

This smoothie is quick, nutrient-dense, and satisfying — a great way to add greens and plant-based protein to your morning or post-workout routine.
