DIY Marble Mini Vases: Simple Steps to Create Petite Decorative Vases

I was experimenting with oven-bake clay recently and started a project that went completely wrong. Instead of throwing everything out, I discovered a different approach that turned into a fun little project. The result: tiny marbled containers that work as mini vases, desktop organizers, or fridge decorations if you add magnets.

These miniature vessels are perfect for corralling small office supplies, holding tiny plants or flowers, or gifting as a quick handmade present. They’re simple to make, portable, and customizable — a quick, satisfying craft with great results.

Materials

  • Oven-bake or air-dry clay
  • Clay roller
  • Plastic knife or similar cutting tool
  • Small dowel or similar round tool
  • Strong magnets (optional)
  • Super glue (optional, for attaching magnets)

How to make marbled mini vases with clay

Instructions

Begin by combining two or three colors of clay to create a marbled effect. I rolled the different colors into a single ball, pulled it apart, and reformed it a few times until I achieved the marbling I liked.

Roll the marbled clay into a flat slab about 1/4 inch thick. You can go slightly thinner, but keep the thickness consistent across the entire piece. Rectangular or semi-rectangular slabs tend to work best because they form an even tube when joined.

Form the slab into a tube and trim any excess clay. Join the two edges securely, then place the tube over a finger and press the edges of one end inward to create the bottom of the container. This step forms and seals the base.

Turn the tube upright and use a small dowel on the inside edge to press and flatten the clay that forms the bottom — this helps create a stable base so the mini vase can stand on its own. Follow the baking instructions on your clay packaging if you’re using oven-bake clay, or allow it to fully air-dry if using air-dry clay.

After the pieces are baked or fully dried, you can attach a heavy-duty magnet to the back with super glue if you want to display them on a refrigerator or a metal surface. Strong magnets hold well and allow you to use the containers as both storage and decor.

Add magnets to marbled clay vases for the fridge.

These mini vessels can hold small office items, tiny succulents, or single-stem flowers. Try different color combinations to match your space or create sets as thoughtful handmade gifts. Personally, I love the blue marbled versions the most, but the neutrals and mixed pastels are great too.
