While hunting through my craft stash for gift wrap for a child’s birthday, I stumbled on a few felt sheets and realized they’d make perfect little pouches. They can be charming gift packaging or a simple handmade present on their own.

This drawstring pouch is quick and simple to make — and great for kids to try. When I was young, I loved making things that looked more grown-up than “kid-made,” and this project gives that satisfying result without much effort.

Use these pouches to present small gifts, trinkets, or party favors for holidays and birthdays. Fill them with candy, tiny toys, or use them as stocking stuffers. Follow the steps below to make felt pouches in just a few minutes.

3 DIY Projects That Turn Party Decor into Chic Home Accents

I’ve been sharing lately how much I enjoy hosting the occasional party alongside my home décor projects. Today I’m combining those two passions to present three DIY ideas that work beautifully for a celebration and then translate directly into long-lasting home décor. The concept is straightforward: create party elements—photo booth backdrops, textiles, party favors—that are stylish for an event and functional enough to keep using in your home for years.

For this series I partnered with V8 to produce a two-part project: first, a detailed DIY tutorial for each party-turned-home-decor project; and second, a full party reveal showing these pieces in action.
