With the studio kitchen leaning heavily toward white—white cabinets, white countertops—I wanted a splash of color and pattern for the backsplash. Instead of spending on custom cement tiles, I created a budget-friendly alternative that gives the same patterned look.

I partnered with 3M and used ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape to make peel-and-stick vinyl tiles resemble the popular cement tile designs. It may sound unconventional, but I achieved the exact colors and pattern I wanted and kept the total cost under $50.

featured 87685

Looking for Halloween home decor ideas that are simple, affordable, and completely removable once the holiday is over? This easy Halloween DIY is perfect — budget-friendly, quick to make, and you can use any mirror in your home because the design peels away without damage.

A DIY idea for Halloween decor with stencils and paints.

This year I wanted a spooky entryway accent that didn’t require bulky storage afterward. I wanted something that felt festive but could return to everyday life the moment Halloween ends. After testing a few concepts, I landed on a simple technique that transforms any mirror into a faux-antique, haunted-looking surface using removable adhesive stencils or silkscreens and multi-surface acrylic paint.

The result is a Halloween mirror that’s decorative, inexpensive, and temporary. You can use it on a bathroom vanity mirror, an entryway mirror, a closet door mirror — practically any reflective surface in your home. When you’re ready to put Halloween away, the painted pattern scrapes off cleanly with a small razor blade, leaving the mirror undamaged. It’s a great solution for anyone who wants seasonal flair without the attic storage.
