How to Sew a Summer Shift Dress from a Tablecloth

I’ve had this tablecloth sitting around since a Galentine’s Day shoot about a year and a half ago. I loved the pattern, but it wasn’t being used much, so I decided to give it a new life as a summer shift dress. Below you’ll find the before-and-after and step-by-step instructions so you can try this upcycle yourself.

Tomorrow I’m headed to sunny Scottsdale with three dear friends—Ashley, Kelly, and Lexy—for a short getaway filled with sun, laughter, and relaxation. It’s only a few days, but I’m genuinely excited to spend time with women I rarely get to see. Follow along on Instagram and Snapchat for plenty of vacation photos and snaps.

Usually when I travel I’m exhausted and desperate for a break—burned out from work, low on inspiration, and craving downtime. This time feels different. I’m not burned out: work is mostly caught up, the household is in order, and the family is doing well. The timing feels right.

Still, I’m really looking forward to this escape. It’s the first trip in a long while where I don’t feel that pre-vacation desperation. I think that means I’ll start this mini vacation in a better headspace and enjoy it more.

Before I go, I wanted to share a collection of beach- and pool-inspired travel images to kick off the long weekend mood. I’ll be back tomorrow with a big Mother’s Day brunch post and a giveaway—so check back for that.
